Talk: “When noise pollution stifles the Ocean’s voices”

About

Dive into the (very) sound-driven world of the ocean with the talk “When noise pollution stifles the Ocean’s voices” at the Cité de l’Océan. Far from being a “silent world”, the sea is a rich acoustic environment where sound is vital for navigation, feeding and communication—from fish and dolphins to whales.

Human activities, however, create an underwater racket that disrupts biodiversity on a broad scale. A striking example is whales: their complex songs are increasingly masked by noise, threatening their survival—and indirectly ours too, since these giants also support the climate system (carbon storage, oxygen production).

To better understand this invisible challenge and explore ways to protect this underwater symphony, meet Laurence Paoli—committed author, founder of Urban Nomad, and creator of the first communication service dedicated to biodiversity conservation at the French National Museum of Natural History. Booking recommended.
